Clinton Portis, I really like this guy coming into the 2008 fantasy football season. He’s not going to be splitting carries with Betts, and is coming off a very solid year which I expect him to build on. He is a very capable number one running back, and could very well put up Westbrook-like numbers.
I expect him to catch more passes this year, good news for the point per reception leagues (he caught 48 passes last year). I also expect the Washington offense to play well this year. I like the kid Campbell they have playing quarterback, and they have a host of offensive weapons. With some good quarterback play, and a pretty solid line to run behind, Portis should run for 1400 yards or better this year, with plenty of receptions. Additionally, he should be in the double digits for touchdowns, and should put up very consistent numbers, with a few big games.
I would probably consider taking Portis as high as 6th or 7th in this years draft, if you pick late in the first round and he is available, don’t hesitate to snap him up. He’s primed to have a very good year in the new west coast offense coming to the Redskins under new coach Zorn.
