Ahman Green is a question mark coming into the 2008 fantasy football season. While he is worth a pick, where to draft him is up in the air.
Green, if healthy, could put up pretty good numbers. The Texans offense has been coming around, they have a quarterback and a few options for him to throw to. They are able to move the ball, but don’t have a reliable running game. The picked up Chris Brown in the off-season, and seem content to put their faith in Ahman Green to be their main man.
That’s great if Green can stay healthy. If Green is healthy all season, expect 1,000 yards and a handful of touchdowns. Don’t expect Green to be the only running back to get reps in the Texans backfield this season, even if he does stay healthy. Brown was not brought in to ride the bench all year, and will get some touches. Green may also lose some touches around the end zone.
If Green can stay healthy, he will be a decent number two option. He’s worth drafting as he will be a viable option while running for the Texans. Don’t rely on him, however. I would like to think that if I’m picking up Green, I already have two running backs and am adding Ahman for depth. While he does have potential, he’s not a sure bet to play 16 games this season. Be careful with this guy, but keep him on your radar. He could be a nice pickup, depending on where you draft him and how much he plays.
