David Garrard QB 2008 Fantasy Football Outlook

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

David Garrard could be in for a big year this season. He was injured for part of last season, but threw for 18 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Pretty good numbers that should get better.

The Jaguars have upgraded their wide receivers in the off-season, brining in Williamson and Porter. In addition, they have Northcutt, who I think highly of, Jones and Williams. Might not be an all pro among them, but all are starter caliber. Add into the equation a solid run game and tough defense, and Garrard has the groundwork set for a good outing in the coming season.

The only worry I have about Garrard is the Jaguars style of play. I don’t see them really opening it up and letting him air it out, which will keep his numbers in check to some extent, but if he plays like he did last year, they will find a way to let him make plays. Keep an eye on Garrard, he is a serious sleeper this year, and could surprise everyone and crack the top five at the quarterback position. If you can find a way to pick this guy up, it is well worth your while.

Kevin Curtis WR 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Kevin Curtis could be a very good value pick in this years 2008 fantasy football draft. Take a good long look at him, he is poised to have a solid season.

Last season, Curtis had a couple big games, with one monster game. I expect more consistent play out of him this season as he settles into the Eagles system and play calling. If McNabb stays healthy for the full season, look for Curtis to see the benefit.

The Eagles have been searching for a number one receiver for years. After parting ways with Owens, Curtis is the closest they have come to having that number one. He won’t be a top ten receiver, but should be good as a low end number two, or solid number three wide receiver. With that being said, I believe he has some good upside and will have him on my radar come draft day.

Selvin Young RB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Everyone likes a Denver running back, but coming into this season, it’s a hodge-podge of players, and will probably be a gamble on who gets the lions share of touches until opening day. With that being said, I like Selvin Young’s prospects.

Young has been taking reps with the first team, Shanahan has spoken highly of his off-season conditioning and work to this point in the mini-camps, and he played well last season. He could well be the man in Denver, which would give him 1,000 yard potential. He could also get stuck in a running back by committee situation.

Keep an eye on how things round out in Denver. If you draft early, Young is probably the first Denver back to go off the board. If you have a pick you can gamble a bit with, Young is not a bad choice for that gamble. If you draft closer to opening day, keep your ears tuned to what is going on in Denver, although it is likely Shanahan does not appoint a starter until maybe even game time of opening day.

Matt Schaub QB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Matt Schaub is primed for a big year with the Texans, and you should be able to pick him up late enough in the draft that he will be a real steal.

Last season, Schaub was injured, his number one receiver in Johnson was out, he had no real running game, yet he still played well when he was in there healthy. His numbers do not reflect what he is capable of should he and Johnson both stay healthy. They have a few young wide-outs and a solid tight end for him to throw to. I expect the Texans to be a solid team this year, as a direct result of excellent play at the quarterback position.

Take Schaub as a back up for potential trade bait later in the season, or draft him with a couple other low profile quarterbacks later in the draft. He may not be a top tier quarterback, but come the end of the season, he’ll have put up some good numbers. I’m looking for 3500 yards and 20-25 touchdowns.

Jay Cutler QB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Jay Cutler has some potential coming into the 2008 fantasy football season, but I’m not convinced he’s the man you want anchoring your team at the quarterback position.

Cutler comes into this season with his diabetes under control, which could be a big positive for his performance. He plays for a Denver team that will put up some points this year, and you can count on the running game being there behind him. Lots of positives, I just don’t think he has the experience to keep it together for a full season, or the talent around him to put up top line fantasy numbers.

Add to the equation the problems his number one wide out is having, the departure of Walker and you have the makings for a very mediocre year. He should be a steady performer, with a couple good games, but I would not count on him as a starter if you’re looking to take home the gold in your league this year. There’s a lot of good quarterbacks to be had, if you want to take the risk on Cutler, make sure you carry two more quarterbacks with some upside to them as well.

Reggie Williams WR 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Reggie Williams finished last season strong, and could be a decent sleeper option coming into the 2008 fantasy football season.

Williams ended last season with 10 touchdowns, but only had 38 catches. The Jaguars really need a wide receiver to step up, as evidenced by the signing of Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson. I don’t know that they have a true number one wide-out on the team at this point, which leaves the door open for Williams to expand on the second half of last season.

With pretty solid quarterback play, and a good rushing attack, there will be a Jaguar wide receiver worth drafting this season, question is, will it be Williams. He’s not a bad pickup, will have some upside potential, and worst case scenario he is someone you can spot start as a bye week replacement. He’ll have a couple big weeks this season, but whether or not he can bring consistent play to the table is going to dictate his value.

Javon Walker WR 2008 Fantasy Football Ranking

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Javon Walker was a player I thought had the potential to have a comeback year. With the recent turn of events, I’m not so certain now.

Walker was cut by the Broncos after injuries, and signed to a good sized deal by the Raiders. The Raiders are coming into this season seeking some offense. With last years number one pick taking over the quarterback duties, they were looking to get him some good options. Walker was to be the number one in Oakland this year, but that could be in doubt after his Las Vegas mugging.

Keep an eye on Walker, I don’t think the extent of his injuries are known yet, he could be 100% come the season, but then again, he could miss time. If Walker comes into camp healthy, and can stay healthy all season, he should put up decent numbers. I don’t know that he will put up all pro numbers, but he could be a decent bye week replacement or number three wide-out, with some upside potential.
