Luck opens his Colts career in stellar fashion
Andrew Luck opened up his NFL preseason debut in the same manner as Peyton Manning did many years ago – with a touchdown pass on his first attempt. Is this a sign of things to come?
First off, I would temper expectations. While Luck looked very good, he looked very good against a pretty plain defense, with second stringers starting to work their way in on the defensive side of the ball while Luck was still playing. Playing against the exotic looks he will get during the year will be a different story.
Although you should temper your expectations, that does not mean Luck is going to be a dud. He could be a decent option at some point during the NFL season, but he is not going to be a top five QB with the likes of Brees, Rogers, Brady and company.
Keep an eye on Luck through the preseason, and pay close attention to how he fares in the third preseason game. What this performance means most to me, however, is that his surrounding cast of players (Reggie Wayne, Donald Brown, Austin Collie) will not be fantasy outcasts this year. They could all be nice value picks if Luck can play the QB position at a high level in the NFL.
