Philip Rivers QB 2008 Fantasy Football Preview

Posted by webmaster on August 2nd, 2008

Philip Rivers is a guy you can take a look at in the later rounds and still get a quality starter. Rivers will be one of the top 10 quarterbacks this season. He won’t be number 1, or even number 5 for that matter, but he will turn in a solid season and is truly a low risk selection. If you are waiting to grab a could quarterbacks late, look his way. He won’t be a glamorous pick, but he will get the job done holding down the fort at QB for you, while your other studs light it up.

Aaron Rogers QB 2008 Fantasy Football Preview

Posted by webmaster on August 2nd, 2008

Aaron Rogers will be an excellent pickup this season. Don’t expect him to lose his starting job, he is the man in Green Bay, and will be come the start of the season. He has inherited an excellent offensive team, with top notch receivers. Additionally, they found a running game last year, and have an outstanding defense.

I don’t see Rogers going off the board until around the 10th round. To grab a potential top 10 QB in the 10th round puts him into sleeper status for us. If your game plan is to wait on a quarterback, Rogers is worth keeping an eye on. Be sure to draft another capable quarterback to go with Rogers to hedge your bet, but I think by midseason, Rogers is going to find his stride and be putting up big numbers. Remember, he played very well in the one game against the Cowboys last season, that was not a fluke!

David Garrard QB 2008 Fantasy Football Outlook

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

David Garrard could be in for a big year this season. He was injured for part of last season, but threw for 18 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Pretty good numbers that should get better.

The Jaguars have upgraded their wide receivers in the off-season, brining in Williamson and Porter. In addition, they have Northcutt, who I think highly of, Jones and Williams. Might not be an all pro among them, but all are starter caliber. Add into the equation a solid run game and tough defense, and Garrard has the groundwork set for a good outing in the coming season.

The only worry I have about Garrard is the Jaguars style of play. I don’t see them really opening it up and letting him air it out, which will keep his numbers in check to some extent, but if he plays like he did last year, they will find a way to let him make plays. Keep an eye on Garrard, he is a serious sleeper this year, and could surprise everyone and crack the top five at the quarterback position. If you can find a way to pick this guy up, it is well worth your while.

Matt Schaub QB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Matt Schaub is primed for a big year with the Texans, and you should be able to pick him up late enough in the draft that he will be a real steal.

Last season, Schaub was injured, his number one receiver in Johnson was out, he had no real running game, yet he still played well when he was in there healthy. His numbers do not reflect what he is capable of should he and Johnson both stay healthy. They have a few young wide-outs and a solid tight end for him to throw to. I expect the Texans to be a solid team this year, as a direct result of excellent play at the quarterback position.

Take Schaub as a back up for potential trade bait later in the season, or draft him with a couple other low profile quarterbacks later in the draft. He may not be a top tier quarterback, but come the end of the season, he’ll have put up some good numbers. I’m looking for 3500 yards and 20-25 touchdowns.

Jay Cutler QB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on June 27th, 2008

Jay Cutler has some potential coming into the 2008 fantasy football season, but I’m not convinced he’s the man you want anchoring your team at the quarterback position.

Cutler comes into this season with his diabetes under control, which could be a big positive for his performance. He plays for a Denver team that will put up some points this year, and you can count on the running game being there behind him. Lots of positives, I just don’t think he has the experience to keep it together for a full season, or the talent around him to put up top line fantasy numbers.

Add to the equation the problems his number one wide out is having, the departure of Walker and you have the makings for a very mediocre year. He should be a steady performer, with a couple good games, but I would not count on him as a starter if you’re looking to take home the gold in your league this year. There’s a lot of good quarterbacks to be had, if you want to take the risk on Cutler, make sure you carry two more quarterbacks with some upside to them as well.

Eli Manning QB 2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Posted by webmaster on May 3rd, 2008

Eli Manning is another of the many quarterbacks who could be a number one option for your fantasy team come 2008.

After taking abuse through most of the 2007 season in the media, with many questioning if he would have his job for long, Eli comes out and wins the Superbowl. He has a similar supporting cast as he did last season, and I expect better numbers from him in 2008.

Last season the Giants had more dropped passes than any other team in the NFL. These dropped passes contributed greatly to Eli’s low fantasy numbers. He was just outside of the top 10 QB’s fantasy stat wise last season, but these dropped passes killed drives and killed Eli’s stats.

Coming into the 2008 season, I expect Burress to be healthy again, Smith to be in his second year and become a contributor, Shockey tocome back to form, and Toomer to continue doing what he does. In addition, the Giants have a good supporting run game. All the pieces are there for Eli to have a strong showing, and this could be a breakout year for him.

Take a look at Eli in the middle rounds of your draft, he should be a decent starting option for you, with some upside potential.

Matt Hasselbeck QB 2008 Fantasy Football Player Ranking

Posted by webmaster on May 3rd, 2008

Matt Hasselbeck is a solid quarterback who should be considered a decent number one option in the 2008 fantasy football season.

Hasselbeck will be playing QB for Holmgren in his last season as head coach. I expect the Seahawks to respond well to that situation, with the main benefit landing squarely on the QB’s shoulders.

Matt Hasselbeck had a career year last season, throwing for almost 4,000 yards, 28 touchdowns and only 12 INT’s. It’s very likely that he matches those numbers, and should be a very safe pick. A reliable starting quarterback, and you should be able to wait until the middle rounds of your draft to pick him up.

There are a number of very reliable starting QB’s in this years draft, you should be able to wait until the middle rounds of your draft to pick one up and still get the quality play you need from the position. Hasselbeck is one of those who will be there, and is well worth considering.

Marc Bulger QB 2008 Fantasy Football Ranking

Posted by webmaster on May 2nd, 2008

I like Marc Bulger coming into the 2008 fantasy football season a lot. He has the potential to put up excellent numbers, and he and the Rams should come out gunning this year.

The Rams entire offense was in a severe depression last year. Injuries hit them hard and often, Orlando Pace was out from the very beginning of the year, and their whole season was a depressing one for most fantasy owners holding Rams players.

2008 is a new season, however, and the fantasy outlook is much better. The line is back at full strength, and Bulger will feel like he has something to prove after his terrible showing in 2007. His value is going to be low coming into the fantasy draft this season, if you plan on waiting to pick up a starting quarterback until the middle rounds, consider looking Bulger’s way.

You can probably grab Bulger in the 7th round, maybe later. He should be a top 10 quarterback this year easy, and could potentially work his way into the top 5 with a good season. Either way, Bulger should be a dependable fantasy football option at QB this season, giving you a solid 250 yards with a touchdown or two week in and week out. He should be one of the better value picks in the draft this year.

Donovan McNabb QB 2008 Fantasy Football Outlook

Posted by webmaster on April 29th, 2008

Donovan McNabb comes into every fantasy football season with a lot of potential, puts up some big games, puts up some terrible games, gets hurt, drives fantasy owners crazy.

Looking to the 2008 season, it’s tough to say where to place McNabb in the draft. He has some upside potential, and will give you some big games. He also has injury potential and will probably have some terrible fantasy games. I think it’s pretty risky putting your faith in McNabb.

With that being said, McNabb does have the potential to be a fantasy stud. You can’t overlook that. You should be able to get McNabb in the middle rounds of your draft, and it could be worthwhile to pick him up, just be sure to draft a serviceable back up. It could turn out to be a good risk to take, but I think I’ll be avoiding him come the fantasy draft.

Drew Brees QB 2008 Fantasy Football Ranking

Posted by webmaster on April 29th, 2008

Drew Brees should be a solid fantasy quarterback in the 2008 season. I don’t expect him to put up numbers like Brady did last year, but he should be solid.

Brees started the 2007 season terribly. The Saints offense was in disarray, and after being in the hunt for the NFC championship, they failed to make the playoffs last season. I expect them to have a bit of a chip on their shoulders this year, which should bode well for their offense.

Even in a down year, Brees still threw for almost 4500 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also tossed 18 interceptions. I would expect pretty similar numbers this year, maybe a few more touchdowns, a few less interceptions, but you can count on 250-300 yards every week, with a touchdown or two, and the occasional big game.

Don’t draft Brees and expect him to be a top five quarterback this year, but you should be able to pick him up with a good value pick and have a dependable quarterback who will get you decent points week in and week out. He’ll be a workhorse for you in the 2008 fantasy football season.
