Mike’s 2024 NBA Mock Draft: Round 1 – Picks 16-30

Washington Wizards: Matas Buzelis, F, USA

The Wizards only have two legitimate building blocks in Jordan Poole and Bilal Coulibaly, and although there is no obvious first selection, Buzelis has point forward potential and a strong jumper at 6-foot-10. He is currently in the G-League.

Detroit Pistons: Ron Holland, PF, USA

A current teammate of Matas Buzelis, Holland is a talented scorer who can create his own shot and is excellent at the rim. The 6-foot-8 forward is a strong athlete and defensively is a stud as well. The Pistons could use a weapon like him to pair with Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson.

Houston Rockets: Justin Edwards, SF, Kentucky

Edwards is a strong athlete at 6-foot-7 who has what it tales to be a big-time scorer in the NBA. Yes, the Rockets just drafted Cameron Whitmore, but they could easily make it work with the Kentucky product.

Charlotte Hornets: Isaiah Collier, G, USC

Collier is not just Bronny James’ teammate at USC; Collier is a legitimate star prospect. The 6-foot-5 point guard is a talented playmaker and scorer. He is a guard who would fit well with LaMelo Ball, which is vital.

Orlando Magic: Alexandre Sarr, C, Spain

The huge 7-foot teenager is a strong athlete who brings elite defensive talent and a growing offensive game with a working jump shot. He may be somewhere No. 1-3 in my 2.0. version of my 2024 NBA Mock Draft.

San Antonio Spurs: Aaron Bradshaw, C, Kentucky

Victor Wembanyama is not a true center, so there shouldn’t be an issue with drafting a pure 5. Bradshaw, a 7-footer, is long and quite athletic, which helps with rebounding, shot-blocking and dunks. He also has a lot of offensive talent and a decent shot.

Utah Jazz: Tyrese Proctor, G, Duke

Proctor was a big-time recruit who struggled some as a freshman, but played well in the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-5 point guard looks like he should have a monster sophomore season. Utah really needs a franchise point guard, so the fit is strong.

San Antonio Spurs: Mackenzie Mgbapa, F, Indiana

The Hoosiers freshman from Nigeria is a 6-foot-8 scorer and a strong shooter who has positional versatility as a combo forward. San Antonio could really use more forward help, so Mgbapa would be a big get.

Toronto Raptors: Zaccharie Risacher, F, France

If Risacher were more athletic, he would also be a candidate for the No. 1 pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, but still, the 6-foot-10 Risacher is a skilled offensive talent and scorer. He also works hard on defense, where his length helps him. The Raptors should be rebuilding, and he would be a very nice building block.

Oklahoma City Thunder: Stephon Castle, G, Connecticut

A big-time scorer with strong playmaking ability and size, the 6-foot-6 Castle seems to be the next excellent Connecticut guard. Oklahoma City could use a guard like him next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Dallas Mavericks: Kyle Filipowski, PF, Duke

Filipowski would have been drafted somewhere around the lottery in 2023, but he for reasons I cannot fathom, he returned to school. Filipowski is an incredibly skilled 7-foot scoring big man who carried a mediocre Duke team for most of the season. The Mavericks need a big like him, and he would be paired with college teammate Dereck Lively again.

Indiana Pacers: Donovan Clingam, C, Connecticut

The massive center only played a reserve role in Connecticut’s title run, but the 7-foot-2 Clingam is one of the truly talented rebounders and shot blockers in the nation, as well as a very capable and efficient scorer. The Pacers will need a center when Myles Turner leaves, and Clingam could play a reserve role for a few seasons.

Atlanta Hawks: Kel’el Ware, C, Indiana

Ware was a lottery talent when he started his freshman season at Oregon, but after a wasted season, he can make the lottery as a sophomore. At 7-foot, Ware has shown elite shot-blocking and rebounding talent, and although he can shoot, he really needs to improve. He would fit Atlanta well because Clint Capela won’t be with the team much longer.

New Orleans Pelicans: Dillon Mitchell, F, Texas

The 6-foot-8 Mitchell was also a lottery talent as a freshman, but he was not much of a help for Texas. He could be a big-time prospect again with a big sophomore season though. Mitchell has a lot to work on, but he’s a prospect who the Pelicans can develop.

Chicago Bulls: Jeremy Roach, G, Duke

The 6-foot-2 senior guard may not be a star, but is a truly elite role player. He’s a strong shooter, scorer and playmaker who has what it takes to be an excellent sixth man, which the Bulls lack. He also comes with significant intangibles.
